Celebration of Life - What's it All About?
If you’re new to the brain tumor community, you may not be aware that there are multiple programs, support groups, and fund-raising events specifically for brain tumor patients in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Seven years ago, a group of brain tumor survivors, caregivers, and their friends planned the very first networking event for brain tumor patients. The Legacy Brain Foundation has continued this annual tradition every spring, recognizing five and ten year survivors with a specially designed lapel pin, and presenting the Jeannie Murphy Spirit Award to an individual who had made a significant contribution to the brain tumor community.
The Celebration of Life event has featured “hippie folksinger” David Bailey, himself a long term survivor; "Curveball" author Liz Holzemer; Olympic athlete Vince Poscente; and local fitness guru Larry North. This year, a true icon in the brain tumor community, Dr. Ben Williams, will be our special guest. Dr. Williams is an experimental psychologist, the author of “Surviving Terminal Cancer” and a tremendous resource for patients considering their treatment options, especially for malignant glioma. Since Dr. Williams rarely makes public appearances, we are indeed honored that he will join us for this special event.
The Celebration of Life event has also provided an opportunity for brain tumor patients to meet other patients who understand what it means to survive a serious illness – and deserve recognition for it. Some ladies like to wear their fancy hats and scarves, and some like to display their "battle scars." This is one party where someone who has lost their hair will have plenty of company!
We hope you will join us this year at the Hotel Intercontinental for a very special celebration. If you would like further information, email
